About Mad Hatters Studio

Mad Hatters Studio is situated in a beautiful Grade 2 listed barn in a historical complex on the edge of Dartmoor near Plymouth. It offers a welcoming, creative space for people of all skills to learn, make and meet.

Workshops are presented by Sheron King, a designer maker working in ceramics, jewellery, mixed-media, painting, and textiles. There are also masterclasses presented by world-renowned guest tutors, such as Margaret Beal and Anne Kelly.

The studio is Sheron’s work/live space, full of artworks, design pieces, collected vintage and ceramics. She has an intense addiction for resplendent colour, texture, layers and surface pattern, which is reflected in her personal collections on display in the studio.

Sheron is an up-cycler, and uses collected ephemera and reclaimed textiles in all aspects of her work, intuitively and emotionally responding to the memories they hold and their materiality. The materials become repositioned and evoke journals of narratives, memories and nostalgia, as well as making a statement about environmental, political and social concern in a consumer-driven society. She aims to inspire and encourage others, through holistic-approach workshops that reuse materials, to explore their own creative potential and, in so doing, to raise their self-esteem and self-image.
